Guitar Competition of the 19th Silesian Guitar Autumn – Call for Applications
Applications for this year’s Jan Edmund Jurkowski Memorial Guitar Competition of the 19th Silesian Guitar Autumn are open until 31st August, 2024
This prestigious event for classical guitarists from around the world is held biennially and is open to all solo guitarists regardless of age, education and country of residence. Renowned for its high standards and long tradition dating back to 1986, it is highly popular in Europe. This is why the festival’s status is often compared to the most recognizable competition in the music world, the International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition.
In the previous edition, applications were accepted from 34 participants from 11 countries: Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, Belarus, Japan, Poland, Romania, Serbia, and Hungary.
To enter the competition, register via the competition website by 31st August, 2024, at https://guitar.tychy.pl/en/registration/ by providing personal details and the programme selected for the auditions in the 1st and 2nd Rounds, as well as the Final of the Competition.
Please attach a photo to be used in the festival catalogue, a biographical note, confirmation of payment of the registration fee (60 Euros) and, most importantly, a link to a private recording which will be evaluated by the Jury in the 1st Round.

For the 1st Round, prepare one part of the Sonata selected for the 2nd Round of the Competition and a free programme (total 10-15 minutes), for the 2nd Round, perform a sonata originally composed for guitar in the 20th or 21st century and a free programme (total 30-35 minutes)
After the submission deadline, qualifications for the live auditions will be announced by 18th September, with the auditions taking place in Tychy on 23rd and 24th October, 2024. On 24th October 2024, the results of the 2nd Round of the Competition will be announced, followed by the drawing of the Final audition order. Rehearsals with the orchestra for the finalists will take place on 25th and 26th October, 2024, culminating in the Final Round and the selection of winners, followed by the concert of the laureates during the Gala Concert on 27th October, 2024.
